The last thing you want on your windshield is any sort of obstruction. If somebody posted a sticker or decal on your windshield or the person you bought a vehicle from placed a sticky sign on your window, the first thing you want to do is get rid of it.

Unfortunately, removing something sticky from your windshield is harder than it looks. Read on to see how you can remove sticky substances from your auto glass.

Use Window Cleaner

Window cleaner is a great way to clean off sticky items, and it often takes just a few moments. If the sticker slips around, you may need to use a razor to carefully carve away the sticky substances. The window cleaner works with the razor to eliminate all the residue. Of course, take great care with the razor to avoid damage to the windshield.

Use Rubbing Alcohol

If window cleaner does not do the trick, you can use rubbing alcohol as a backup option. The alcohol pours over the sticky substance and should allow the components to simply lift off without much work on your part. You can also use a cotton pad or paper towel to dab at the sticky part of your window.

Again, you should use a razor blade to ensure you lift off each piece of the sticky substance. You can then wipe the area dry.

Ice the Window

Place an ice pack against the sticky part of your windshield. You will need to affix the ice pack for several minutes to completely cool off the area. Then, you can use a razor to peel off the sticky substance.

Add Hot Water

If you are not up to the task of icing the windshield, you may want to use hot water and soap to clear off the windshield.

Shake up the water and soap concoction in a container and pour the substance over the sticky part of your window. Allow the substance to sit, and check to ensure that the sticky part is coming off. You should be able to peel off the sticky part with your hands.

Use Baking Soda

Baking soda is another household item you can use to clean up your windshield. Combine some baking soda and cooking oil to create a cleaning substance you can use to dab at the sticky substance. You should then be able to use your hands to peel off the sticker.

Use Chemicals That Unstick Items

Many items designed to unstick items from your glass are available on store shelves. One such product is known as Goo Gone. Goo Gone is non-toxic and helps to eliminate all sticky substances, including stickers and glues. The bad news about using this method is that it does not always come off cleanly. You may be left with some residue that takes a while to clean properly.

You do need to be careful when you use chemicals like these, as they can damage the material or surface. You should begin with a spot test so you can determine what reaction the substance might have on your window.

Seek Professional Help

Of course, you may find that you cannot remove everything on your own. You may need a professional to assess your situation and help you eliminate all obstructions from your windshield so you can drive safely.
